Beach & Buzz
Hot, dry days averaging 25–30°C bring Cape Town to life. It’s peak season, so book early, and be prepared for the city’s famous south-easterly “Cape Doctor” winds.
AUTUMN: MAR-MAY
The Sweet Spot
Warm, calm days around 17–22°C make this one of the best times to visit - with beautiful weather, fewer crowds and better value.
WINTER: JUNE-AUG
Cosy & Green
Cooler, wetter days around 12–16°C bring the lowest prices of the year. Think cosy fireside wine tastings, quieter escapes and whale watching along the coast from July.
SPRING: SEPT-NOV
Wildflowers & Whales
Mild days around 13–26°C bring blooming landscapes, whale calves along the coast and a city coming back to life before the summer rush.
LANGEBAAN
Life on the lagoon
Just 90 minutes up the West Coast, Langebaan curves around a vast turquoise lagoon, warm, shallow and far calmer than the open Atlantic. Known as the Cape’s watersports capital, it’s also the gateway to the West Coast National Park, where spring transforms the landscape with carpets of wildflowers. Life moves at an easier pace here: long lunches, wide-open skies and sunsets that stretch across the water.

Watersports, families, birdwatchers, and a proper slow-coast reset.
Langebaan Lagoon
Swim, kitesurf, windsurf, paddleboard or sail on the Cape's warmest, calmest water.
West Coast National Park
Fynbos, flamingos and birdlife, and the Postberg wildflowers in Aug-Sep.
Seafood & Sundowners
Open-air restaurants right on the lagoon, best at golden hour.
On the Water
Boat trips, kayaking and some of the best kitesurfing conditions in the country.
GETTING THERE AND WHEN TO COME
About 120 km / 1h30 north of Cape Town, an easy drive up the R27. Best in spring (Aug-Sep) for wildflowers, and summer for warm water and watersports.
PLETTENBERG BAY
The Garden Routes Golden Bay
Plettenberg Bay, "Plett", is the Garden Route's most-loved seaside town: kilometres of white beach, warm Indian-Ocean swimming, indigenous forest and a lagoon, with whales and dolphins offshore for much of the year. It's polished but unhurried, and one of the best places in the country to see marine life straight from the sand or a boat.

Robberg Nature Reserve
A dramatic peninsula hike with a seal colony and sweeping ocean views.
The Beaches
Central, Lookout and Robberg for warm swimming and long barefoot walks.

Boat-based marine safaris, southern rights, humpbacks, dolphins and seals.
Forest & Lagoon
Keurbooms lagoon, canopy tours and the Tsitsikamma forests nearby.
GETTING THERE AND WHEN TO COME
About 520 km east of Cape Town, a scenic, 6 hour drive along the N2, or a short flight into Plettenberg Bay / George. Summer (Nov-Mar) for beaches; winter-spring (Jun-Nov) for whales.
PRINGLE BAY
Where the Wild Coast Begins
Just over an hour from Cape Town along one of the world's great coastal drives, Pringle Bay is a tiny, unspoilt village tucked between the Kogelberg mountains and the sea. No traffic lights, no rush, just fynbos, a wide sandy beach, whales in season and some of the clearest night skies near the city. It's the Cape's easiest true escape.

Off-grid calm, hiking and nature, and quick weekends close to the city.

The cliff-hugging coastal road from Gordon's Bay, one of South Africa's most scenic drives.
Kogelberg Biosphere
